The season that saved baseball. The home run record chase of 1998 was absolutely wild. It was everything that made a hot summer’s night memorable and it was made possible by performance enhancing drugs. Allow me to be clear, PEDs are great for professional sports. Let’s look at the five seasons of Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire before the 1998 season. Sosa- Home runs (33,25,36,40,36)

McGwire- Home runs (9,9,39,52,58)

I’m willing to say that “most” PED use has been with the intention of promoting the healing of an injury and staying on the field. McGwire’s numbers tell the story of a guy trying to get back in the game and why wouldn’t anyone, from a fan to an owner of the team not want the same? Neither player was a poor homerun hitter, the PEDs just elevated their performance and I’m good with it.

Those who know me, know that I am a Mets fan who loves to keep the legend of the 86 Mets alive, and we all know those drugs were anything but performance enhancing, and I’m good with it! Let’s observe the greatest home run hitter in the game, Barry Bonds. If you were to strip Bonds of all his stats from his 7 MVP seasons, he would still have 440 dongs and 359 stolen bases! The Bottom line is this, if a professional athlete wants to use performance enhancers. I’ll gladly pay $8 a beer to see that performance.
