NASCAR has announced that they will forego another foray in Chicago next year and will race on the streets, or the tarmac, of Naval Base Coronado (NBC) in San Diego California. The race will be held the weekend of July 19-21st 2026 and will feature all three national touring series. Cup, Xfinity and Craftsman series. In celebration of the Navy’s 250th anniversary. As a fan of NASCAR, adaptation, and change, as well as being a veteran I am excited to see this event put together. The tentative plan is to have a three-mile street course making this the biggest track in NASCAR history.
My oldest memories of NASCAR come from the mid-late 1990s. What an era it was! NASCAR has changed so much since then and while I don’t love every change, they have been able to keep things new and exciting for the fans and I can appreciate the effort. I expect this race at NBC San Diego to be the next chapter in exciting innovation from NASCAR and since there will be left, and right turns, Shane Van Gisbergen is my early favorite for the win in the first ever NASCAR race that might require a security clearance to get on pit road. Start working on that SF-86 now SVG!
